Politics

Politics is an important part of my life, and has been for some time.  I'm fairly active in the Democratic Party, having worked as a volunteer, deputy field organizer, or political director/media director on campaigns everything ranging from a non-partisan school board race to the 2008 presidential campaign.  I have a lot to say about politics, and I try to provide opinions that are devoid of talking points, ideologically satisfying hyperbole, or outright falsehoods.  I may make mistakes, but be assured I try to be an honest broker of information.  Corrections are welcome - but I will need a citation.

ImageSo I'm re-reading Michael Oren's Six Days of War, an outstanding book on the June, 1967 war between Israel and Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Jordan, and I was mulling over the situation over there. I concluded that reasonable people can agree on the following:

  • Israel has a right to exist
  • A Palestinian state made up of Gaza and the West Bank has a right to exist

After 60 years of fighting, I believe most of the people in the area can agree on those two points (in conjunction, at least).

ImageIn rendering their decision, the majority in Citizens United v. FEC swept away decades of concerns expressed regarding corporate influence on US elections. From Brandeis to Rhenquist to Marshall, justices have consistently, and at times unanimously, ruled that the interests of the public in maintaining fair and open elections extended to limiting corporate campaign expenditures. It cannot be stressed enough how complete a reversal this ruling represents.

Image A podcast from the presidential primaries leading up to the 2008 election, I discuss torture and the need to elect a president who wouldn't continue the enhanced interrogation policies established by the Bush Administration.

BitLogic is undergoing yet another site redesign. This time, I'm using Mambo, which is probably the most advanced thing I've done as far as installing software on my domain.  As with all things, the more powerful it is, the more complex it is, and Mambo is not without perplexing issues, so bear with me as I slowly make the site useful.
